Chelmer Valley Woodturners Newsletter

November 2020

 Words from the Chair

Another month and here we are back in lockdown I am really looking forward to us all getting back to the ‘old normal’.

I regret I have to report that Peter Jackson is in hospital having suffered a mild stroke. He has returned home and hopes to recover in the next six weeks. I am sure you will join me in wishing him better and back on his feet soon.

Read on and you will see that Kyle has been busy making the necessary arrangements to enable us to hold a virtual competition. This will need enough entries to actually continue and that means we must make the effort to participate in the competition for it to be judged.

So please, finish making your pieces and send your photographs in. The competition is totally dependent on our participation.

There is plenty going on in the newsletter to keep us connected within the Club and our virtual activities, so read on and keep turning.

Stay well every-one.

Newsletter

Club Competition

To make the newsletter less cluttered, we’ve made a page for the club competition. It can be found on the homepage, and under ‘events’ at the top of the page. Finally, you can enter the below link into your search bar.

The usual rules apply, however, for this year only, you can submit work that has been sent in within the last year.

AWGB Renewals for 2021

Ted Higgs has sent out the renewal forms in early November by e-mail and post otherwise. Just a reminder that for those of you who do internet banking you will have the bank transfer details otherwise a cheque to Ted will be OK. If you have not received the renewal form get in touch with us at Chelmervalleywoodturners@gmail.com.

Free resources

With compliments of Paul Howard, he has shared with us for our membership some plans to keep you busy over the coming months. They will be attached in the email that has been sent. If you need another copy, send us an email and we will get this sent out to you.

This month is the Offset Lady. Enjoy! (Don’t forget to send us in your photos of it!)

Andy Phillip

Andy Phillip is an internet sensation when it comes to woodturning. He does not speak or talk through what he is doing and relies on the ‘Autonomous sensory meridian response’. ASMR to all those in the know! Andy is known for creating magnificent pieces which are made with resin, as well as interesting burled wood. I know one of our members was inspired to join the club because of what he makes. If you’re ever in need of any motivation, Andy is a surefire way to go.

Members work

Thanks very much to George Locker, who has sent in a project for the Toys project. Kyle went and picked this lovely steam engine up for George, so don’t hesitate to use him to pick your projects (after the 2nd December). The piece is made from an english hardwood, accented by purple heart on the wheels. On top of this, George has sent in a large collection that he’s made over the past few months. It’s great to see, thanks very much George!

November’s Project - Show Stopper

It’s that time again! Club Competition time!

You’ve seen the rules above and we look forward to seeing what you make.

For inspiration, we’ve made a Pinterest board of some different pieces to get the creative juices flowing.
